A Story of a Ruptured Heart,
5000 Miles from Home
What
Broken Wide Open is a solo theatre show featuring Shana Pennington-Baird telling her story about surviving an aortic dissection while traveling alone in Ireland. This hour-long musical story includes ten songs and forty minutes of comedic and dramatic narrative including a 6-person Celtic band. This poignant and hysterical show takes the audience through the harrowing and terrifying experience of almost dying alone and what it took to get back home to Seattle.
“During Broken Wide Open, we journey alongside Shana as she navigates a life-altering experience while traveling abroad alone. Set against the lush backdrop of Ireland, the play weaves together Irish music, heartfelt storytelling and raw vulnerability. Through Shana’s account, we share her uncertainty, fear, resilience and unexpected connections that emerge during her incident, diagnosis and unexpected surgery. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and left feeling inspired and heartened.” – Valerie Koch, attendee
